In Loving Memory of Ousmane Diallo

The National Action Network family is heartbroken by the passing of our beloved member, longtime youth leader, and dedicated organizer, Ousmane Diallo.

Ousmane first walked through our doors as a teenager, joining the NYC NAN Youth Huddle with a passion for serving others and a determination to make a difference. Over the years, he became far more than a participant. He became a leader, a mentor, an organizer, and one of the young men who helped shape and strengthen our National Youth & College Division. To watch Ousmane grow from a teenager in our Huddle into one of Harlem's brightest young public servants was a privilege and a blessing our organization will forever cherish.

He helped build and strengthen our youth movement, organized young people from across the nation for the 2023 March on Washington, led anti-violence, student debt relief, and Get Out The Vote initiatives, mentored future leaders, challenged elected officials to prioritize the needs of young people, served families during our pandemic food distribution efforts and holiday community givebacks, and contributed to countless other efforts. Whether organizing youth participation for the Selma commemoration, helping launch the National Action Network Convention's State of the Black Male panel, advocating in Washington, D.C., or serving the Harlem community through public service, Ousmane never stopped answering the call to serve. Even after beginning his professional career, including his work in the New York State Assembly, he remained a familiar and faithful presence at National Action Network, always willing to lend his time, his voice, and his heart.

Just this past Monday, Ousmane was with us at our first Huddle forum in our new House of Justice, helping lead a discussion on reducing gun violence and strengthening our communities. None of us knew it would be the last time we would hear his voice, share his smile, or witness his unwavering commitment to service.

It is fitting, though heartbreaking, that one of Ousmane's final acts of service was helping lead the next generation in the very movement that helped shape him. His life reminds us that leadership is measured not only by titles, but by consistency, compassion, and a willingness to show up for others. Ousmane embodied those qualities every step of the way.

We extend our deepest prayers and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone whose life he touched. We pray that God grants his loved ones strength, comfort, and peace during this unimaginable time. May Allah grant Ousmane everlasting peace.

He found his purpose early, and he lived it every single day. Ousmane's journey was far too short, but his impact will endure. His legacy lives on in every young person he mentored, every community he served, and every life he inspired. May we honor his memory by continuing the work he dedicated his life to.
