For fifteen years, Rev. Al Sharpton has used PoliticsNation to put civil rights, voting rights, justice, and equality front and center. This is a celebration of that milestone: his career in the movement, tributes from friends and leaders, and moments from the anniversary night in Harlem.
Rev. Al Sharpton is one of the most recognized civil rights leaders of his generation. A Baptist minister who began preaching as a boy, he has spent his life carrying the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. into the modern struggle for one standard of justice, decency, and equal opportunity.
In 1991, he founded the National Action Network, now one of the nation's leading civil rights organizations, with chapters across the country and its home at the House of Justice in Harlem. From the pulpit to the streets to the halls of power, he has stood with families seeking justice, led national movements for police accountability and voting rights, and organized the marches and rallies that keep the movement's demands in front of the nation.
In 2011, he brought that same voice to television as the host of PoliticsNation, a platform he has used every week since to lift up the stories that too often go untold and to hold power to account. Fifteen years later, PoliticsNation remains appointment viewing for a movement, and a reminder that the work continues.
