The Black Agenda Rally filled the steps of the New Jersey State House in Trenton today, as Rev. Al Sharpton joined Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Rev. Steffie Bartley, elected officials, faith leaders, labor partners, and residents from across the state under one banner: One Voice. One Vision. One Agenda.
The gathering grew out of a meeting earlier this week at the National Action Network House of Justice, where Mayor Baraka, Rev. Bartley, and ministers and community leaders came together to set the agenda. Today that agenda took the Capitol steps.
Bringing faith, leadership, and community together as we continue the work for justice and equality.
Today in Trenton, New Jersey, the movement gathered around a Black Agenda that speaks directly to the issues confronting our communities, from economic opportunity and education to public safety, voting rights, healthcare, and justice. Standing on the steps of the State House, Rev. Al Sharpton told the crowd that we must organize around the issues that affect our people every day.
Rev. Sharpton spoke alongside Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Rev. Steffie Bartley, joined by elected officials, faith leaders, and residents from across New Jersey. The message was clear: this is about strategy, about coming together, and about turning our concerns into action at the ballot box and in our local communities.
“We cannot afford to sit on the sidelines,” the call went out. We must organize, mobilize, vote, and hold leadership accountable. When our community comes together with purpose, we can make a difference.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, October 12, Mayor Ras Baraka, Rev. Steffie Bartley, and community leaders gathered at the National Action Network House of Justice to set the Black Agenda.
